The Cobble Shaker, also known as the Continental or Traditional Shaker, is the first version of the shaker, whose patent was registered in New York in 1871. The instrument consists of a lower part made of steel, glass or plastic, into which the ingredients and ice are poured, a perforated lid which allows the ice to be held when the cocktail is poured into the glass and finally a small stopper which is used when the drink is shaken. Although, many bartenders today prefer the Boston Shaker, the Cobbler Shaker has an undeniable historical appeal, which is still used by the more traditionalists.
